My fantastical vacation: Where I’d go if they were real

Every now and again, I get bitten by the travel bug.

And lately, my computer at work has taken to rotating through a series of beautifully tropical vacation photos on its lock screen, which really isn’t helping.

So I’ve spent a lot of this week thinking about getaways, and honestly, there are so many places I’d love to visit—both in real life, and in fantasy.

Here’s where I would travel if they were real places!

Eorzea

Draconic politics and Ascians aside, the realm of Eorzea in Final Fantasy XIV is full of breathtaking views and epic scenery. The gamemakers knew that, and literally built in a feature that encourages you to go around looking for vistas to enjoy and log.

If it were real, I’d probably want to spend most of my day in the tropical La Noscean region, swimming off of Costa del Sol, and end the evening with a quiet sunset at the hot springs in Shirogane, which my character Diana discovered quite by accident one day.

Hogwarts

London is a magical place on its own, but even though I knew better, I couldn’t help keeping my eye out for any people disappearing through brick walls in the train stations when I visited. I’d love a chance to wander through the world of Harry Potter and experience all the magic he did!

I think I’d want to spend the day touring the castle, even though I don’t think I’d have time to see it all, and end the day with a trip to Honeydukes and a Butterbeer.

Yes, I know there’s a version at Universal Studios. It’s amazing, but it’s not the same.

The Shire

The idyllic homeland of J.R.R. Tolkien’s hobbits is someplace I’ve wanted to see ever since I read about it in the novels when I was 10. The hobbits were never there for long, sure, but it seemed lovely anyway!

I think I’d want to see Bilbo’s hobbit hole for sure, just to see what that mazelike abode was actually like. I loved the rustic and vaguely Celtic feel of the place in the movies! And maybe, if I felt up to a walk, I’d ask him to show me what Rivendell was like, too.

Bluebell Town

This little town was my favourite place in Harvest Moon: The Tale of Two Towns for a few reasons, and those are the same reasons I’d love to visit!

First, I’d love to take a trip into town, just to meet the eccentrically effeminate restaurant owner, Howard.

Then, I’d probably want to spend the rest of the day on the farm in Bluebell Town, which is where they let me raise 16 alpacas. I would just play with the Macarena-dancing alpacas all day.

The Avengers base

This would be such a dream come true. Imagine being able to spend all day hanging out with the likes of Iron Man, Captain America, and Nick Fury.

They’d probably have zero tolerance for a touristy fangirl like me, but it wouldn’t even matter. I’d spend the whole day walking around, trying not to break the tech and begging Tony to let me try the suit.

YOUR TURN

What fantastical place would you want to travel to if it were real?

  1. Most places in Hydaelyn! I’m totally with you on that one 🙂 Shirogane is a great choice but for me personally I’d go for Kugane. I want to live and work there! 😀 I love it so much I had a custom mug made with a picture of Kugane’s Dori Marketplace.
