Hello, spring: Tips for adding spring to your gaming space

Editor’s note: Because of a technical issue, my site had to be rolled back a day so this post got accidentally taken down. So if you’re getting this notification more than once, I’m sorry!

Maybe it’s because I’m on week five of being stuck indoors, but I am far more excited about spring than I usually am. I just love the idea of warmer weather, sunshine in our basement apartment, and having the windows open for some fresh air while I work!

But because I’ve been in the same space almost non-stop for a month, and because I can’t exactly go outside and enjoy like I would normally, I’m also slowly becoming obsessed with finding ways to change up my environment.

So today, in case you’ve gotten a case of cabin fever too, I thought I’d share some of my favourite ways to bring spring to your gaming space!

Add flowers and plants

This is just about the easiest way to bring spring indoors! And I don’t know if you could tell from my Instagram account, but it’s also one of my favourite ways to brighten things up year-round.

Although it might be kind of difficult to buy real flowers and plants right now, unless you live in a country like Norway where flower shops have set up a DIY situation, you can still get your hands on some flowers! Personally, I’m a huge fan of using quality fake flowers (emphasis on quality) because they don’t die, so they’re great for decor.

Most craft and decor shops will likely be closed, but it would be worth checking to see if your local one is doing curbside pickup or delivery, since plenty of stores have started doing that recently. And if that fails, Amazon’s got lots!

Get into some DIY

I absolutely have Animal Crossing: New Horizons to thank for this new obsession. If you’re not familiar with the game, its entire crafting function is based around the concept of DIY, and of course everyone encourages you to try it all the time.

On top of that, I’ve been spending a lot of time looking at articles about fun DIY projects to take on while home, and since our plans of buying a house have temporarily gone down the toilet, I’m determined to make our current home as cozy as possible.

Coming up with some DIY projects to work on can help bring spring into your space in a few ways; depending on what you do, it can help you with spring cleaning, or it can give you ways to introduce something fresh and new!

Plus, it gives you something fun and challenging to do while staying safe indoors.

Personally, I’m incredibly tempted to try creating this flower wall for behind our TV, and I love the idea of making a new rug for our living room.

Change up your colour scheme.

This is another usually easy technique that might be a little trickier with everything closed. Cycling out colours in your space can help make everything feel new and fresh, and having set schemes for different times of year can help you get into the mindset for that season.

I actually keep a few extra pieces stored in our closet that I can cycle out with the seasons. In winter, I tend to have a lot of greys and whites around, especially in the form of warm blankets—but as summer comes up, I switch them out for teals and bright colours that make me think of the beach.

Play a game that makes you think of spring.

Just because we’re indoors doesn’t mean our minds need to be! If you have a game that makes you think of spring, especially one you haven’t played in a while, this is a great time to bring it back out and play.

Usually I save this tactic for when I’m sick of winter, but well, I feel like it’s just as appropriate—if not more so—right now.

For example, I love playing through the spring season in Harvest Moon games, and because I haven’t played them in a while, I’m starting a new game fresh in spring.
