3 video games my parakeet loves

When I started my blog nearly a year ago, I started it with a very untalented logo that showed a little bird chirping about video games. Although I had to change things up a while ago (licence issues are the worst when you can’t draw), that little bird was inspired by my pet parakeet, Kiwi.

She plays a bigger role in my gaming life than you might think.

And it’s not just that she’s the basis for every gamertag I’ve ever had.

Although she’s tiny, she has a lot of personality, and she isn’t afraid to tell me what she likes and what she hates.

The one thing she absolutely loves more than anything else in the world is our big TV. There have been times where she’s yelled at me until I turn on the Office, just so she can watch it, even though I’m not in the same room.

She also gets very interested when the humans start playing video games—and although she can’t play them with us, she definitely has favourites.

Just for fun, here are some of the video games my pet bird loves!

Destiny 2

This was a pretty short-lived fad in our house, because it did not take long for Shane to discover how bad the matchmaking algorithm was. But while we were playing it, Kiwi was absolutely in love.

I suspect it was the bright colours that appealed to her little birdy brain, but she would sit for hours and watch as Dad jumped around the screen, shooting things. Sometimes, she’d even chirp her encouragement to him!

Minecraft

Before parrots were introduced into the Xbox One version of Minecraft, Kiwi didn’t care one way or the other about the game. After they were introduced, though, she was baffled, then obsessed.

Let’s just say it didn’t take her long to start trying to talk to them.

The Witch and the Hundred Knight

This one is a very new discovery for me, although Shane had been waiting for it to go on sale for over a year. It’s an adorable pseudo-indie game with a very Final Fantasy-esque game style.

It also completely bewitched the bird.

One of the first things you discover is that the Hundred Knight makes these adorable little noises, and they come out of the controller. They also now come out of my bird. She loves talking to the little Hundred Knight!

Bonus: The game my bird hates most of all

Diablo 3

Although I love this game and tend to get absorbed in farming for goblins for hours on end, my poor little bird hates it. Diablo 3 tends to have long periods of silent running around, followed by an explosive crash of noise when you find a mob, and it always startles her out of her naps!

YOUR TURN

Do you have pets? Do they like watching video games?
