I still remember my first Batman game. I was so excited when I found Batman: Arkham Asylum in a Costco for $20 that I talked my mom into getting it for me. I didn’t know much about the game, but I was riding high on a teenage love for the Dark Knight movies, so I was sure I’d love it.
I did, but man, was I terrible at it.
I spent the majority of the game crouching and sneaking to avoid the bad guys, much more like a Nightwing than a Batman, and when I got to the Scarecrow bit, I struggled with it so bad that I kind of dropped the game for a while.
That year for Christmas, my sister got me a rather more chicken-friendly version: Lego Batman.
That turned into an obsession for the Caped Crusader, leading to a full collection of the Lego Batman games, and every now and again, rekindling my interest in Arkham Asylum. I never did beat it, though.
Now, this year is Batman’s 80th birthday.
I didn’t actually realize that until yesterday, when Shane was reading out an article on IGN talking about it. And the exciting part was that as part of the birthday celebrations for our favourite angsty superhero, Epic Games is giving away six of the Caped Crusader’s games specifically for PC.
Specifically, these games are all free right now:
- Batman: Arkham Asylum
- Batman: Arkham City
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Lego Batman: The Videogame
- Lego Batman 2: DC Super Heroes
- Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham
You do have to download the Epic Games engine to download and run them, and they do come in bundles, the Arkham series and the Lego series. And FYI, they’re only available until September 26, so hurry!
But I was pretty excited about it, especially since the copies I own for some of those games are on my now-inactive Xbox 360, and can’t be played on the Xbox One (they never did backward compatibility for the Arkham series, just Origins). And of course I wanted to make sure you guys have a chance to play too!
So enjoy, and I hope you have as much fun with them as I plan to.
