Last year, long before I realized that we’d be buying a house and moving right about now, I decided to put Blogtober in my content calendar for this year.
I’d never heard of it before, but I happened to see it on a fellow geeky blog around the same time I was doing my planning last year, and was instantly curious. As it turns out, it’s a global phenomenon that’s been around for quite some time in the blogging community (like, years).
The whole idea of it is that you publish a new post every day for the month of October.
As someone who published about once a week at the time, that was obviously mildly intimidating. But because I’d already been planning to increase how much I write, and because it seemed like it would be a lot of fun, I decided I’d try it.
Now, as I’m facing a week and a half of painting followed by a move and a lot of unpacking, I did genuinely think about holding off. But then I realized that the whole point of it is to have fun, set a challenge for yourself, and do something new.
So starting on October 1, I’m going to see it through!
And I’d love for you to join me.
Throughout October, I’ve got all kinds of fun things planned, from celebrating fall in all its pumpkiny glory to current game obsessions and much more. I’m really excited about how it’s going to turn out, and how I might feel differently about blogging once all is written and done.
I’d love for you guys to come along with me on this new writing adventure—whether you want to check out what I’m putting up, or even if you want to try your hand at it yourself.
If you do want to do a Blogtober challenge for yourself: All you have to do is put up a new blog post every day for October! Personally, I recommend making a plan ahead of time, just because I know how much it sucks coming up with topics under pressure.
If you’re like me and like to create all your own photos, be sure to prep them ahead of time, or look into CC0 image sites. I love Unsplash and will probably be relying on it a little, especially since most of our stuff is currently in a pile of unsightly boxes in the living room.
Have fun, and happy Blogtober!

Thanks!! I heard of blogtober but didn’t know what it was. I will be participating this month!
I’ve made it through 21 days of straight blogging for the Blogtober Challenge 2020. I’m kind of looking forward to it because I didn’t realize how time consuming it was going to be. More than likely I’m going to do it again next year. But for next year, I’m going to add an index of fellow bloggers who are doing Blogtober (right from the get go). Something along the lines of Bloggers taking the Blogtober 2021 challenge.
