I’ve been trying to do better at staying up to date with Dreamlight Valley the same way I do with Final Fantasy XIV. Historically, patches have remained a mystery to me long after they’re live—partly because I still feel like a new player who doesn’t want to get overwhelmed by too much content and partly because I love the mystery of discovering what might be new in the shop any given day.
But as much as I might like not knowing, I couldn’t help but be curious what we might be getting this time around.
In case you hadn’t heard the news, this week’s big update brings us a few new friends in the form of Pocahontas and Meeko (and Percy, though I don’t know where he comes from yet)! And since Pocahontas was one of the few Disney characters that tiny Diana loved enough to play dress-up as, with a toy copy of the necklace and everything, it’s safe to say I’ve been pretty excited.
And along with these new friends, there are a few things I’m really looking forward to with the upcoming update.
If you haven’t seen it yet, here’s the full breakdown:
And the highlights so far:
Olaf’s Grand Exhibition
Full disclosure, I’m not a huge fan of Olaf in Dreamlight Valley. He hasn’t done anything wrong; there’s just something about the way he’s designed that looks absolutely haunted.
Try watching him follow you sometime, you’ll see what I mean.
But with this new patch, he’s getting his very own museum in the style of Blathers from the Animal Crossing universe. And in spite of my dislike of the character, I’m really looking forward to it.
From the video, it looks like Olaf’s Grand Exhibition is going to let you collect and display things like gems, flowers, fish, and companions from each biome in the main valley. They do say in the video that at launch, it will only have spaces for the Peaceful Meadow and Dazzle Beach, but I’m sure that will expand over time!
I always enjoyed collecting critters, fossils, and art for the museum in Animal Crossing (even though I definitely skipped over as much of Blathers’ dialogue as I could), and seeing it all come together when I’d found all the pieces. It’s so satisfying for my completionist brain.
So I’m excited to have something like this to work on in Dreamlight Valley too!
The new outfits and furnishings
A new Dreamlight Valley patch always means new items and glams, and this patch is no different. It looks like between Pocahontas herself, the new star path, and the new spring event, there are two main themes for us to look forward to, and honestly, I’m here for both of them.
I won’t spoil too much, but I do really love the themed outfit that I suspect will end up being Pocahontas’ level 10 friendship quest reward. It’s definitely a themed outfit, but it’s subtle enough that I can see it working as components of other outfits as well.
We’re also getting matching furnishings, and the Canadian in me is already planning out where I can make space for things like canoes. And maybe an entire campground, we’ll see!
I’ve got my eye on the new dress from the spring event, and suspect it’ll make an exceptionally adorable gardening outfit as I go around scattering a rather familiar-looking willow tree all over the place.
It might even finally inspire me to finally update the mannequins I keep around for quick outfit changes!
The crafting update
Ever since we got the ability to search for recipes while cooking, I’ve been hoping and dreaming we’d get something similar for regular crafting. And with this patch, it looks like we finally will.
It looks like there will be a few different ways to search through the increasingly extensive crafting list for a particular recipe. We can either search directly, or we’ll be able to filter by traits, styles, colours, and categories.
I did notice that among the categories was a Favorites tile, so I’m assuming we’ll be able to set favourite recipes for crafting. That will be a really nice addition; there’s a lot of stuff I just never craft, and it’s always in the way of finding the things I do want to craft. So at least this way I can keep a list of my regulars without having to filter through everything!
The video does also say this will apply to uncrafting, so that should make that process faster too. Maybe I’ll finally break down all the old paths I ripped up after Lady and Tramp’s star path!
